At the tender age of four, Julie* already had cavities in seven teeth. A few needed fillings but others required pulpotomies and crown placement. Still others were beyond repair and needed to be extracted. The cost of treatment mounted beyond what Julie’s father could afford to pay out of pocket. Like many working-class families, they did not qualify for publicly-funded dental care but also could not afford private dental insurance.
Thankfully, Julie could receive care from Kindersmile Community Oral Health Center, a safety-net dental care provider in Bloomfield, New Jersey. As a nonprofit member of our Dental Resource Program, Kindersmile qualifies for In the Gap grants to support the care of children like Julie.
Thanks to a grant funded by MGE: Management Experts, Julie could have the rest of her treatment completed in one visit under sedation to avoid the anxious behaviors that made previous treatments a challenge for her. Even better, she now has a dental home to help Julie and her family learn the habits they need to have healthier smiles in the future.
"Julie, her father, and the team at KinderSmile Foundation are so grateful to America's ToothFairy for making her continued treatment possible! She is excited to be able to smile confidently without constant pain! Thank you!"
—Michal Herman, KinderSmile Foundation, Bloomfield, NJ
