Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Apple Tree Dental in Mounds View, MN was able to increase access to care for children within the Twin Cities area. The majority of their patients are on medical assistance making it difficult to access a dentist who is able to accept them as a patient, due to the low levels of reimbursement. Transportation and distance becomes an issue as well, as they are required to travel to other cities to find a dentist who will accept their insurance.
Grant funds from America's ToothFairy were used to foster a partnership with North Metro Pediatrics, a medical clinic located nearby. Through this partnership they created a primary medical/dental co-location of services, allowing families to receive both their medical and dental care in one location. Pediatricians and dentists were educated on how to increase referrals for care and two new residents were trained on pediatric practices, gaining valuable experience treating children and also increasing the number of children that they were able to treat.
By funding innovations in how we address the oral health disparities of our nation's most vulnerable kids, America's ToothFairy is helping our partner clinics remove barriers to care.
